This year marks the fourth time that Philips Malaysia is organising this music festival, together with the support of various corporations, namely Heineken, Light & Easy, Malaysia Airlines, ntv7 and also The Westin Kuala Lumpur.

The Philips International Jazz Festival has carved a strong recognition for itself for delivering different musical styles from different artistes, ranging from traditional jazz to free jazz, fusion jazz and even jazz dance. This year’s festival promises a most diverse and extravagant list of artistes who will perform, from the most deeply traditional to the most cutting-edge, exotic and extraordinary sounds.

Two stages will be set up at the venue for the show that is expected to begin at 4:00 p.m., thereby enabling the artistes and the bands to perform with as little interruption as possible.

Explained Mr R. Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of Philips Malaysia Sdn Bhd at a recent press conference to present further information about this forthcoming festival, “We are proud to be organising the Fourth Philips International Jazz Festival, which is set to bring together a choice combination of international artistes, local stars as well as winners of our recently-concluded Philips School Jazz Band Award.

“The concept of the Philips International Jazz Festival truly reflects two of the four key values that helm the company; it being, depending on each other and developing people and their skills.

“Organising this musical extravaganza and making it a successful event for participants has become very meaningful to Philips Malaysia. This will definitely draw music fans, and in particular jazz lovers, from surrounding countries to head for Kuala Lumpur for this great music treat,” said Mr Kumar.

Invited international artistes include Anggun, currently based in France; ethnic-jazz group Krakatau from Indonesia; a ccapella team Ideas of North from Australia; and India’s favourite group, Silk. Besides this amazing line-up of performers, the festival will include our Malaysian favourites, Camelia, Sheila Majid and Ning Baizura.

Performing alongside these world-class entertainers will be winners from the Philips School Jazz Band Award.
