JAZZ ON THE GREEN (English)
Posted by admin under: Festival; Gigs .
It might be stating the glaringly obvious, but a great line-up, affordable tickets and lush green fields, are crucial ingredients of a memorable outdoor festival. And Kuala Lumpur is bracing itself for a good time with the return of the Philips International Jazz Festival 2003 that makes a comeback after a one-year hiatus. This year’s festival is going to be special as it takes place at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian and Country Resort, off Jalan Damansara in Kuala Lumpur on Dec 6. That means a more people-centred and picnic atmosphere and no stuffy rules of some previous festivals.

This one-day “jazz-themed” outdoor treat will be set out on the resort’s polo field and this year’s Philips International Jazz Festival could possibly be Kuala Lumpur’s answer to the fabulous Rainforest World Music Festival in Sarawak. There’s already a connection between both events as the Philips festival has secured a top billing world-jazz outfit Krakatau from Bandung, Indonesia. The rousing Krakatau performance was one of the highlights of the Rainforest festival last month and it would be good for Kuala Lumpur jazz fans to check out the return of this dynamic outfit to these shores. Another Indonesian on the bill is pop star Anggun, a Jakarta-raised, Paris-based singer, who will add to the festival’s jazz “diva” variety alongside names like Sheila Majid, Camelia and Ning Baizura. Melbourne jazz vocal outfit Ideas of North and Silk, an ethnic ensemble from India, completes the line-up.
The top winners of the recent Philips School Jazz Band awards are also slated to perform. With workshops and food tents alongside the artistes on stage, you can
expect the upcoming Philips International Jazz Festival to be a whole day of music
bliss. Tickets cost RM40 and you can book them at www.axcesstickets.com, or
